My body was freaking out. Instead of fighting it:: I did this.
A few months ago, I took a medication that threw my hormones for a loop, and I seemingly gained 10lbs overnight…
I took Plan B, which, if you’re not familiar, is an emergency contraceptive that releases synthetic progesterone to avoid ovulation.
While I expected not to feel so great after initially taking it, I didn’t expect it to take a few months for it to exit my system fully.
I wanted to share with other women who have taken it and may not realize the weight gain & the medication were linked, or for those who are reading this while thinking about taking it.
If I weren’t as intuitive as I am, I’ve taken it in the past and didn’t think twice about any of this. A lot of times, we can get frustrated over weight gain when there are more factors other than willpower at play.
Hormone shifts can affect more than just our weight, including our mental health.
You see, when you pump fake hormones into your body, your body will react. Everyone’s different. Given that I live a holistic lifestyle, it affected me heavily.
Initially, I didn’t feel so well, and immediately after, my energy tanked. I felt like I got hit by a bus, was super emotional, and was hungry af… all of the time.
My body was freaking out, and instead of fighting it, I gave it love. I gave myself the rest I needed. I ate to satisfy my body. And I honored the emotions as they came, holding awareness around them, knowing they were very much hormonally induced.
Having this awareness was everything in fighting off the depression and anxiety that were knocking at my door. Again, affects everything, including your mental health.
I knew, this too shall pass ❤️
My next cycle was excruciating but short.
The next month would follow a similar vibe, with a similar cycle. Slightly more energy, more movement (but not my typical workouts), appetite was still up but not as bad, etc.
The third month, my energy finally began to lift ~ I was able to get in a few of my ZAR Method workouts, my appetite started to shift back to normal, and my emotions normalized.
This time, my period was excruciating and longer than normal. I could intuitively feel my body was releasing the remaining synthetic progesterone.
Afterwards, I finally began to feel more like myself.
That “coming home” to yourself is like coming home after a long vacation.
Another element holding me steadfast in remaining diligent to my self-care was knowing that when my body was ready to return to its normal, chakra-balancing workouts, healthy eating, and intuitive living, the weight I had gained would fall off. And it has already begun.
